Athlete Spotlight: Sean Millington
He played 12 seasons in the CFL and twice earned the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian Award. He is a two-time Grey Cup winner with the B.C. Lions and was named MVP of the 88th Grey Cup in 2000.
Meet Sean Millington, who retired twice but has successfully transitioned to life after football. Known as one of the best fullbacks to play in the CFL, Sean has continued to make his presence known outside of football.
Here are some of his accomplishments since retiring:
After his first retirement, he worked as a panellist for CFL on CBC, a job he returned to after his second retirement.
He appeared in notable films and television series during and after his football career. Most notably appearing in the movie 'Are We There Yet?" starring Ice Cube and the television series called "Blade: The Series."
He held a role as an Investment Advisor at TD Waterhouse and has also been a TED speaker.
He was inducted into the B.C. Football Hall of Fame.
He is currently a personal trainer for Diesel Fitness, a gym which he owns in Vancouver.
After his first retirement, Sean Millington said he was fortunate to land a role on CFL on CBC. However, he noted this isn’t the case for many athletes preparing for life after football. Sean emphasized that athletes should dedicate as much effort to planning their post-football careers as they do to the game itself to ensure a smooth transition into an alternate career once they finish playing.
