Athlete Spotlight: Deja Kelly
She transferred to the University of Oregon earlier this year to pursue a master's degree in journalism after graduating from the University of North Carolina with a degree in broadcast journalism.
Meet Deja Kelly, who is making moves in the media world while displaying her exceptional basketball skills on the court. She has been open up about her dreams in sports media post-basketball, but recently, she demonstrated the definition of more than an athlete.
After nearly posting a triple-double in her Oregon Ducks debut, right after the game, she was back on the court as a sideline reporter for the men's basketball game. Here are some of the moves she has made to prepare herself for life after basketball:
She interned with SLAM magazine this past summer.
She is a host for WSLAM "The 411 with Deja Kelly" on YouTube.
Over the summer, she shadowed Andraya Carter, former NCAA women's basketball player and accomplished basketball analyst, during the WNBA season and appeared on the WNBA Countdown.
Deja Kelly also has endorsement deals with Crocs, Dunkin', Barcode and Actively Black. She has demonstrated that athletes can excel in different avenues, and she is fully committed to being a basketball player and pursuing her dream as a journalist in sports media.
