Athlete Spotlight: Clyde-Edwards Helaire
From winning a national championship at LSU to becoming a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, Clyde-Edwards Helaire is not just a force on the field—he’s already laying the groundwork for a successful life after football.
This groundwork began recently when he went back to LSU, where his passion beyond sports led him to enroll in classes while being a full-time football player, fulfilling his dreams.
Here's what Clyde has achieved and is currently working on:
He was drafted in the first round as the 32nd overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.
He is working towards a nursing degree at LSU, crediting his mother, a nurse, and his sister, who was born with muscular dystrophy, as his inspirations for attending nursing school.
The Uvalde Foundation for Kids honoured him with its Heroism Award for shielding a teenager from gunfire during a shooting at the Chiefs' Super Bowl 58 parade in Kansas City.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire has always had a passion for nursing. However, he was not able to pursue it due to scheduling conflicts as a college football player. Now, he has free time in the offseason and during the season to take classes and work toward his dream. He mentioned that football is temporary and nursing is a career he wants to pursue for the rest of his life.
