Chris Ackie Retires From CFL in His Prime
After nine years of professional football, Laurier Legend, Chris Ackie retires from the CFL.
Although in the prime of his career, Chris decided to retire.
We asked him why: “In the off-season, I work at Canada Health Infoway as a Senior Specialist in Public Affairs. I’ve been working there since December and they made me an offer to retire from football… I couldn’t say no”.
What Advice Would you Give to Professional Athletes?
“Always be forward thinking. Football is a great sport that will open many doors for us, we need to leverage that while we can because football doesn't last forever. We play football for such a short part of our lives and have so much more life to live after. Use your network and build connections while you're in the game. Use the off-seasons to figure out what else you're interested in besides football. Try out different jobs, continue your education. The goal should be to leave football on your own terms, not someone else's”.
